The Everest Base Camp Trek is 17 days of an epic journey to the base of Mt. Everest through the villages of the Sherpa people, who are well-known for their excellent mountaineering skills and warm hospitality. The people around here practice Tibetan Buddhism and their culture and tradition are similar to the Tibetan people. Most of the part of this trek lies within the boundary of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to diverse wildlife and vegetation. On the trek, you will pass through the captivating forest of Rhododendron, Oak, Pine, and Juniper, while often crossing paths with yaks. Himalayan Jharals, Himalayan Monal (Danphe), Tibetan Snowcock, Blood Pheasant, etc. can be seen often throughout the trail.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1350 M) and transfer to hotel

One of the members of our company will welcome you at the international airport terminal gate and take you to the hotel. You will have a few hours to rest. Later, in the evening, you will meet with the tour guide in your hotel lobby. He will brief you on the day tour program.

You will go on a guided sightseeing tour to several UNESCO World Heritage. You will visit one of the holiest temples of Hindus, the Pashupatinath temple. Nearby this temple is located the largest in Nepal, Boudhanath stupa. After visiting these places, you will head to Swayambhunath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the evening, you will meet with your trek guide who will brief you about the trek.

In the early morning around 2-3 am, you will take a 4-hour drive to Manthali Airport, Ramechap with your guide. After breakfast, take a short thrilling flight to Lukla where the rest of the staff will be waiting for you. This flight offers magnificent views of the Himalayas. From Lukla, you will trek to Phakding village through the forested trail passing through numerous Sherpa villages mainly Cheplung, and Nurning with a superb view of Mt. Khumbila, Kongde, etc.

After having breakfast, you will head towards Namche Bazar. On the way, you will pass by several villages like Jorsale and Monjo. Monjo is the entry point of Sagarmatha National Park. From here, you will trek through the national park crossing several small streams, rivers, alpine forests, and small settlements. Upon reaching Namche Bazar, you will be welcomed with excellent views of Mt. Thamserku (6623 m) and Kongdi Ri Himal (5115 M).

It is the day of acclimatization. You will spend the day exploring the village and its nearby areas. We will go on a hike to Syangboche Airstrip or Everest View Hotel for a stunning view of Mt. Everest (8848 M) and the surrounding mountains. Later in the day, you will visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery.

Today, the trail will take you to the largest and oldest monastery in the Khumbu region, the Tengboche Monastery. After having breakfast, you will trek towards Phungki Tenga which will be your lunch camp. From there, you will ascent to Tengboche through the huge Rhododendron forest with an opportunity to encounter the wildlife. Later in the evening, you will visit the Tengboche monastery where you will have deep insight into the culture of the locals. Moreover, from the back of the monastery, fantastic views of Mt. Everest (8848 M), Mt. Ama Dablam (6812 M), and many other mountains can be seen.

Leaving Tengboche behind, you will descend through the dense forest of Pine and Rhododronden then cross Imja Khola on a suspension bridge. You will then trek to Pangboche village. From here, the trail gradually ascends through the Imja Khola riverbank to the picturesque village of Dingboche which is the last village. You will get to see captivating views of Mt. Lhotse (8516 M), Mt. Ama Dablam (6812 M), and Island Peak (6189 M) from here.

Today is your rest day for acclimatization. You will begin your day with a warm breakfast and then go on a short excursion to Nangkar Tshang, which is located at 5100 M. The hike will be a little tough due to steep ascend, however upon reaching the top, you will get to see wonderful views of many snow-capped mountains like Lobuche East (6119 M), Lobuche West (6135 M), Ama Dablam (6812 M), Taboche Peak (6542 M), Thamserku (6623 M), and Kangtega (6782 M). After spending some time at the top, you will return back to Dingboche for the night stay.

The trail today will take you to the lap of Mt. Lobuche where Lobuche is situated. After a short ascend, you will trek through the Yak pasture land and cross a river to reach Thukla. From here, a 1 hour of steady ascent will take you to Thok La Pass through the memorials built for all of the people who passed away on the Everest expedition till now.  From here, you will trek to Lobuche through the left side of the Khumbu glacier.

In the morning, you will begin trekking towards the lap of the world's highest mountain, Mt. Everest. The trail gradually ascends following a rugged path. On the way, you will get to see an amazing view of the Khumbu glacier. You will reach Gorakshep, have lunch, and hike to Everest Base Camp. Upon reaching EBC, you will observe the irresistible landscape and numerous snow-capped mountains. After spending some time at the base camp, you will descend to Gorak Shep.

You will take an early morning hike to Kala Patthar for the amazing 360-degree views of the Himalayas. The viewpoints offer a stunning view of Everest (8848 M), Nuptse (7861 M), Lhotse (8516 M), Khumbutse (6636 M), and many other peaks of the Khumbu region. Then, you will hike back to Gorakshep and continue our trek down to Pheriche.

After having breakfast, you will begin trekking down to a river. Further, passing several small villages, you will reach Pangboche. On the way, you will get to see stunning views of the mountains. Further, you will descend and cross a bridge over Imja Khola from where the trail will pass through the Pine and Rhododendron forest until Tengboche. After walking for some time on a straight trail to Deboche, you will ascend to Tengboche.

Trekking back following the same trail, you will reach Namche Bazar. From here, you will trek through forested trails and pass by small villages to reach Monjo for a night's stay.

You will begin descending steeply and cross a suspension bridge. Further, the trail will pass by colorful prayer flags, chortens, mani walls, and small gompas. Trekking through lush forests of pine & rhododendron, small villages, and crossing various streams, you will reach Lukla.

Useful Information

Since 2019, all the flights to Lukla during high tourist seasons i.e October-November and March-April have been operating from Manthali airport instead of Kathmandu.
