Kanchenjunga to Makalu Traverse - The Lumba Sumba Pass Trek

Duration: 22 Days

About Kanchenjunga to Makalu Traverse - The Lumba Sumba Pass Trek

The "Kanchenjunga to Makalu - Lumba Sumba Pass Trek" is a pure off-the-beaten-path trekking experience in the remote region of the Eastern Himalayas of Nepal. The trek connects the Kanchenjunga and Makalu regions by crossing the high-altitude Lumba Sumba Pass (5200 M), a part of the Great Himalayan Trail.

Recently introduced, it is one of Nepal's least explored and newest trekking trails. And thanks to that, one can have an authentic experience and freedom to explore. The trek passes through vibrant villages, monasteries, rugged valleys, rivers, alluring mixed forests, rocky terrain, and many more. The trek provides stunning views of Mt. Makalu (8463 M) and Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 M), including several other peaks, especially from the Lumba Sumba Pass. During the trek, you will walk through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and Makalu Barun National Park, some of Nepal's richest and most diverse protected areas full of natural beauty, wildlife, and vegetation.

The Lumba Sumba Pass is the first pass of the Great Himalayan Trail High Route, a 1700km long adventurous trekking route that spans all the way from the Kanchenjunga Region in the East to the Humla in the West of Nepal. The trek includes remote and pristine landscapes, a hidden gem in the east of Nepal, where only a handful of people have set foot. For around a week, you will be completely isolated and cut off from the rest of the world.

The Kanchenjunga to Makalu Traverse via the Lumba Sumba Pass Trek is itself a wonderful opportunity to discover and experience the culture, lifestyle, and warm hospitality of various ethnic groups of Nepal, like Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, Gurung, and many more. In the villages of the Sherpa people in the higher parts, you can find ancient monasteries, chortens, mani walls, and prayer flags.

Overall, the Lumba Sumba Pass Trek is a marvelous trek that includes both teahouse and camping. If you are one of those trekkers who love to have a wilderness experience of trekking in remote areas with very few people, this trek is a great one.
