About Nagarkot Day Hiking
Nagarkot Day Hiking is one of the most popular hikes that take you to the eastern hill of the Kathmandu Valley. This 1-day hike takes around 6-7 hours to complete.
The hike starts from the ancient Newari town of Sankhu which is rich in Newari culture and tradition with a lot of temples around. You can visit the old palace as well which was built in ancient times when Sankhu used to be a separate kingdom. From there, you will hike up to Changunarayan Temple which is the oldest temple in Nepal built in the 5th century by King Mandev of the Lichchhavi dynasty. It is one of the most significant places in Nepal from a historical and religious viewpoint.
Then you will take a gradual ascent and continue towards Nagarkot where you will have your lunch. Located at an altitude of 2175 M from sea level, it is one of the best destinations around the Kathmandu Valley for viewing the beautiful sunrise and sunset over the Himalayan ranges. And finally, you will drive to the hotel in the evening after viewing the sunset over the Himalayas.
