Duration: 19 Days

About Nar Phu Valley and Tilicho Lake Trek - The High Route of the Annapurna

The Nar Phu Valley and Tilicho Lake Trek, also known as the High Route of the Annapurna, is a complete wilderness trekking experience in the far-flung side of the Annapurna Circuit that takes you to the remote valleys of Nar and Phu and the high-altitude lake, Tilicho, at an altitude of 4919 meters.

Explore the lost valleys of Nar and Phu

The remote valleys of Nar and Phu lie between giant Himalayan ranges like the Annapurna, Chulu, Kang Guru, Manaslu, and the Tibetan peaks on the northern side. Also known as ‘The Lost Valleys’ because it remained undiscovered for a long time due to its isolated location. It was opened for foreigners only in 2003 by the government of Nepal. Each year, only a handful of trekker make their way to these faraway valleys walking through deep canyons, secluded trails, exotic waterfalls, fragrant pine forests, timeless villages and hamlets, Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, etc.

Indulge in the serenity of Tilicho Lake

The Tilicho Lake is another highlight of this trek. This exquisite alpine lake lies to the west of Manang, a popular stopover of the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek, and is a 2-day trek from there. The Tilicho Lake lies just in front of the Tilicho Peak (7134 M) of the Annapurna Massif. The trek to the lake is demanding as we will need to walk through landslide sections and winding uphill. In the meantime, it is equally satisfying with an impressive panorama of various mountain ranges and the captivating landscapes of valleys and rivers below.

Kang La and Mesokanto La – A tough yet rewarding high-altitude passes

The Nar Phu Valley and Tilicho Lake Trek includes two exigent passes like the Kang La and Mesokanto La, a must-do pass for high-altitude trekking enthusiasts due to its remoteness, difficulty, and stunning views. The feeling of achievement after completing the passes and the breathtaking view of mountains and landscapes is worth it and highly rewarding.

Our 19-day Nar Phu Valley and Tilicho Lake Trek Itinerary kicks off from Jagat, following the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek Route to Koto. From there, we will take the beautiful pine forest trail to the Northeast side, following Narkhola to Phu village via Meta. Then we will trek back and make our way to Nar, a village situated amidst the mountains where the ancient culture and traditional way of life are still intact.

The next day, we will start early in the morning to cross the Kang La and arrive at Ngawal, taking us back to the main trail once again. We will then head to Manang, the hub of the Annapurna Circuit Trek that offers amazing side trips. Leaving the main trail once again, we will head to Tilicho Lake and finally to Jomsom through the Mesokanto La, concluding the adventurous trek.
